A Network Dinner for over 150 invited guests formed the official launch of the congress. The atmospheric Domani church was the stage of a lucrative networking moment, and a first successful contact moment between the attendees.
An opening video showed an impression of various projects in the Venlo region. De Zuidstroom, the showpiece Venlo Town Hall and various companies from the surrounding area, which have successfully implemented Cradle to Cradle, came to the forefront. Mayor Antoin Scholten of the municipality of Venlo then welcomed the guests.
His speech mainly focused on the fact that Venlo always keeps moving. "We are known as the Cradle to Cradle capital of the world. Ten years ago, this was still a dream we cherished, which started when the documentary 'Afval is voedsel' ('Garbage is food') by VPRO show Tegenlicht was broadcast."
The mayor said he is looking for parties which want to join the municipality in moving forward. “We cannot achieve our goal of remaining the Cradle to Cradle capital of the world alone. In order to do that, we need the right partners with matching visions.”
The efforts Venlo has made in the past ten years did not go unnoticed. HRH Prince Carlos de Bourbon de Parme dedicated a fair share of his keynote speech to the municipality's achievements. "This municipality inspires, motivates and takes companies along in its adventure. It would be a waste to stop here."
He felt that the value and impact of Cradle to Cradle becomes increasingly clear. "Venlo takes a leading role when it comes to advertising the advantages that come with implementing Cradle to Cradle. Not only should it continue to do so, it also has to make sure it convinces others with this enthusiasm", said His HRH Prince Carlos de Bourbon de Parme.
That's why he called others to action. "Help Venlo and yourself by creating a healthy business case." According to him, that collaboration in building a sustainable future had to be an important result of the Network Dinner, on this first day of the C2C Congress Venlo.
After Prince Carlos' keynote speech, the talented youths of the Valuas College gave a performance. After a classical ensemble, a few songs were sung. Dessert was followed by an extensive networking event.
